Hypalon

30-11-2009 Hypalon

HypalonHypalon is a raw material, a chemical called chlorosulfonated polyethylene (CSPE), that is being used in the production of the Foster® Monolar coatings to enhance UV resistance. Hypalon is the brand-name of DuPont Performance Elastomers, a subsidiary of DuPont. It has become the common name for all kinds of synthetic rubbers, even though DuPont is not the only manufacturer. It is a common material and you can easily find information on the internet. (Click here for more information) Due to a reorganization DuPont Performance Elastomers has made the decision to cease its production of Hypalon, which has lead to some unnecessary confusion about the continuity of Monolar supplies. Since Hypalon is just a trademark, DuPont’s decision does not mean the raw material CSPE will no longer be available. Our quality maintenance program however dictates a series of tests when implementing a raw material from a new manufacturer, to make sure the high quality properties of the product are preserved or even improved. At this time Temati and Foster USA are performing these quality tests, to enable a smooth transition when Hypalon itself will be no longer available. This is expected to take place during 2010. So for 2010 Monolar supplies please be aware, that Hypalon will be replaced by an equivalent or improved raw material. If any questions remain, don’t hesitate to contact us.
